Why Choose a CAPS?

A Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist, otherwise known as CAPS is a designation that requires a number of educational programs. It is also set by NAHB and they deal with strategies to help people, especially the elderly, with home modifications for an improved lifestyle. There are several reasons for why you should choose an Aging-in-home specialist; they are as follows.

CAPS Understand the Needs of Our Aging Loved Ones

It’s difficult to explain what the elderly go through in order to live in their home. It’s hard to understand the level of household management that goes with that. A CAPS would be paramount to understand, deduce and recommend models to help facilitate them.

A Plethora of Available Strategies

Most of the older people would prefer to live in their original homes, the homes they shared with their spouses and children for decades. This is where they have grown to love their communities and to know their neighbors, hairdressers, mechanics, etc.

A certified specialist has the aging-minded approach to ensure living in these areas is as comfortable as possible. And, obviously more so than a nursing home. Those strategic perspectives keep the homeowner’s personality and requirements at the forefront.

Be More Welcoming

Our homes with residing seniors may lack guests for various reasons, but some of it is related to architecture. A C.A.P.S. knows where remodeling is required, helping hosts serve visitors that need a place to rest their head. Besides, a residence with plenty of life keeps us motivated and makes our house feel more like a home.

Collaboration

Making the house more livable for an elderly homeowner is made possible with the help of Occupational Therapists. However, at times an OT may not be as much help, because they lack the resources a CAPS has. So, if a Certified Aging-in-Home Specialist is able to advise, they can bring out an OT’s full potential. Furthermore, understanding the needs and wants of the resident will work as a guide in devising the perfect strategies.

Final Thoughts

With an ever-increasing life expectancy, our future’s senior population is expected to rise exponentially. And, with that, we would expect many to stay in the comfort of their own homes. This means that it is important for us to hire a specialist if the time comes where you need a home update.

Given their certifications, they have ample knowledge of home architecture, various environments and experience in optimizing mobility. Thus, in turn allows them to convey ideas or collaborate with other experts. This ensures that the living-in-home experience for you or a loved one is as comfortable and as facilitative as possible.
